Composites elements:
Carbon fibre strengthening of carbon fibre slabs in seven high-rise residential buildings. The slabs needed holes drilled to install new sprinkler systems, which compromised the buildings structural integrity.

Why composites:
Carbon fibre epoxy anchors and wraps were a perfect solution to modernise the fire safety of a live building without adding bulk or excess load.
Weight
Carbon wrapping and anchors added very little weight, whilst limiting the need to add additional steel beams or reinforcements.
Cost
A lightweight and quick solution, a 22 storey building was completed in 3 days without disruption to residents.
Strength
Carbon fibre anchors ensured the holes cut for the sprinkler system did not negatively impact the buildings structural integrity, making it stronger than before the work.
Durability
The solution is certified and maintains safety of the entire structure for many years.
Maintenance
The carbon wrapping helps to strengthe the building beyond the pre-renovation level.
LCA/Environmental Impact
New fire-safety regulations required the installation of modern sprinkler systems. The structural damage created by this installation needed to be mitigated and carbon epoxy strengthening was the simplest, quickest and most cost-effective way to achieve this.
